We love when we get a chance to highlight a truly special product. This time around, our window covering specialists are showing you the best of Silhouette Shade features with all of the customizations that are possible with this one incredible window covering collection!
Open or Closed? They’re Good Both Ways.
If you know about Hunter Douglas Silhouettes, you know that they consist of these lovely floating, fabric vanes, held in place between two layers of sheer fabrics. When in the “open” position, the natural light enters through the sheers, and you can see out to the landscape. When “closed” the vanes are tilted shut, cutting off the light supply and stopping the view. (They are also capable of then rolling up and into the headrail to reveal the bare window.)

In general, most homeowners keep them lowered, in either the open or the closed position to match the function of the room, as well as the way they want to interact with the light and privacy of their homes.
For Windows…And Doors?
Yes, Silhouettes shades can work on windows and doors. A common issue clients come to us with is how to style glass doors with coverings that will match and/or coordinate with windows in the same shared space. But, sheer shades make it possible, inviting soft, natural light while tilting closed when necessary to create a level of privacy within the home.

But, that’s not all! One of the Silhouette Shade features we love is that they share fabric collections with vertical shades. The Luminette privacy sheers collection of sheer vertical shades can be placed on sliding glass doors–matching the movement of the doors in the same fabric that is used for the horizontal window shades in the same room.

Which View Do You Prefer?
The recognizable thing about Silhouette shades is the soft, sheer fabrics that diffuse light while offering this lovely, hazy view of the landscape. This is due to the sheer fabrics used–and while we love this option, it’s not the only one! You can now order Hunter Douglas Silhouette with ClearView sheers. That means that instead of the haze, you get a sharpened version of the view, the magic of using black sheer fabrics. Based on your home, and the view out of your windows, you’ll choose which option works better for your family.

The Changing Direction of Light
Once upon a time, the vanes of Silhouettes floated parallel to the floor, appearing to almost be invisible to the onlooker. Then, you could tilt them down…down even more…and even farther down until the vanes were closed. As you went through that process, the room would gradually feature less and less light, and the direction of the light was guided downward toward the floor with every adjustment.

Now, you have another choice to add to the list of Silhouette shade features. We want to introduce you to Halo. The vanes can still float, and they can tilt downward. But, they can also tilt up! Tilting them up towards the ceiling means that light enters, and is directed across the ceiling and into the room. This can lead to an amazing opportunity for illuminating your home while maintaining privacy.
Light Filtering AND Room Darkening?
By now, you can see that one of the best Silhouette Shade features is the light filtering that transforms the ambiance of your home. But, you can extend the light control all the way to room darkening with Duolite. Dual shades adds a secondary shade–a blackout roller shade–to the same headrail. So when you want it dark, that shade can lower into place to block the light and deliver peaceful darkness.
Let’s Talk Colors!
So many times, Silhouette shades appear to be a “neutral” window covering. Soft and gentle, you might not even realize what color the vanes are. It’s this subtly that pairs beautifully with their personality. Inviting soft light, protecting interiors, creating a glow. It all sounds so peaceful. When you get into your design consultation, you’ll discover a beautiful array of colors to coordinate with the design elements of your home.
You can also choose contrast! It’s a bold statement, but a gorgeous one. Dark fabrics create a certain look…moody, modern and chic. They also cover black window trim windows with designer style. Which way would you go with your window shades?
